Clock Time
Read the analog clock, from o'clock to any minute, then find the time later.
Analog clocks are all over school and home, and Clock Time gives children a large one to read. Each question asks what time it shows. Children practice with the short hour hand and the longer minute hand, starting with whole hours and building up to every minute around the dial. The wrong choices are the tempting ones, like swapping the hands or picking the next hour, so the game exercises the slips children really make.
In the last level the clock shows the time now and the child works out the time a number of minutes later. That is a first step toward elapsed time. Reading an analog clock is a skill that digital screens do not teach, so steady practice with a real looking clock face is worthwhile.
What children practice
- Tell the hour hand from the minute hand
- Read the time to the hour on an analog clock
- Read half hours and quarter hours on the dial
- Count by fives around the clock to read minutes
- Read any minute from 0 to 59
- Find the time 10 to 60 minutes later
Levels
- Level 1: O'clock
- Level 2: Half past and quarters
- Level 3: Every 5 minutes
- Level 4: Any minute
- Level 5: Time later
How it works
- Five levels: o'clock, half past and quarters, every 5 minutes, any minute, and time later.
- Each question shows a clock and four times to choose from, written like 3:45.
- A wrong choice says try again, and a right answer explains what each hand points to.
- Tap the speaker button to hear the question read aloud.
Best for: A good fit for grades 1 to 5 when a child is learning to tell time or needs practice with minutes and elapsed time.
Tip for parents: Keep an analog clock where your child can see it and ask for the time before bed or before leaving the house. A question like 'what time will it be in 20 minutes?' uses the Level 5 skill.
Questions parents ask
Does the game use a 24 hour clock?
No, it uses a 12 hour analog clock face with the numbers 1 to 12 and answers written like 4:20, without AM or PM. That matches the clocks children see in classrooms and at home.
How hard does the clock get?
Level 1 uses whole hours, and Level 2 adds quarter hours and half hours. Levels 3 and 4 move to every five minutes and then every single minute, where children count the small tick marks to read the time.
What does the time later level ask?
The clock shows the current time and the question gives a number of minutes from 10 to 60. The child picks the new time, including cases where the hour changes, such as 20 minutes after 2:50.
